Practical Measurement Techniques for Physical Spheres
- Vernier Caliper Method: Clamp the caliper jaws across the widest point to measure outside diameter $. Most accurate method for ball bearings, sports balls, and 3D prints.
- Tailor Tape / String Method: Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the sphere's widest equator to read circumference $. Divide by $\pi$ to obtain diameter ( = C / \pi$).
- Archimedes Water Displacement Method: For irregular or small spherical objects, submerge the sphere in a graduated cylinder filled with water. The volume rise in milliliters equals the volume in cubic centimeters ($\Delta V ext{ mL} = V ext{ cm}^3$).
