Why Use Diameter Directly?
In physical engineering and machining, calipers and micrometers measure diameter (d) across the outer surface because the sphere's geometric center is inaccessible inside solid material.
Deriving the Direct Diameter Formula
Since = d / 2$, substitute into the volume equation:
V = ⁴⁄₃ × π × (d / 2)³ = ⁴⁄₃ × π × (d³ / 8) = (4 / 24) × π × d³ = ¹⁄₆ × π × d³
Example: For a basketball with diameter = 24 ext{ cm}$:
- Cube diameter: $24^3 = 13,824$.
- Multiply by $\pi$: $13,824 imes 3.14159265 \approx 43,429.38$.
- Divide by 6: $43,429.38 \div 6 \approx 7,238.23 ext{ cm}^3$.
