Radius vs Diameter in Spherical Geometry

Accurately measuring a sphere is the first step toward finding its volume. Since you cannot physically measure from the center of a solid bowling ball, real-world measurements use diameter or circumference.

How to Measure When You Don't Have Radius

  1. Using Calipers: Clamp calipers on opposite sides of the ball to measure diameter d directly. Then calculate r = d / 2.
  2. Using a Tape Measure (Circumference): Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the equator of the sphere to find circumference C. Then calculate radius: r = C / (2π).
