Spherical Storage Tanks in Cubic Feet

Industrial spherical pressure vessels (often called Horton Spheres) are used to store liquefied petroleum gases. Their volume is commonly measured in cubic feet (ft³).

Industrial Problem

A spherical gas tank has an internal radius of r = 15 feet. Calculate its capacity:

V = 4/3 × π × (15)³ = 4/3 × π × 3375 = 4500π ≈ 14,137.17 cubic feet.

To convert to US Gallons (1 ft³ ≈ 7.48052 gal):
14,137.17 × 7.48052 ≈ 105,753 gallons!
