Sphere Volume in Cubic Inches: Imperial Calculations & Conversions

By Sphere Volume Formula Editorial Team Published on September 25, 2026 Peer-Reviewed • SI & Imperial Units

Using Inches in the Sphere Volume Formula

In the United States and specialized aerospace industries, dimensions are frequently specified in inches. When radius is measured in inches, the resulting volume is in cubic inches (in³ or cu in).

Worked Example

Calculate the volume of a bowling ball with diameter d = 8.5 inches:

1. Radius: r = 8.5 / 2 = 4.25 in

2. Cube radius: 4.25³ = 76.7656 in³

3. Volume: V = 4/3 × 3.14159 × 76.7656 ≈ 321.39 cubic inches.
